    Subject: Failed to load DDL:FirewallInstallHelper
i tried to unistall my program to reinstall it today and it just over and over again says
    " ERROR 0x80040702
    Description: failed to load DDL:FirewallInstallHelper
    Setup will now terminate"

so this means i can't install the aoe3 warchiefs because it only comes up with the option to uninstall when i run setup and since it won't do that it's a destructive cycle. Can you tell me the way to get out of it [Edited on 1/13/2007 by ES_Yeti]

First, uninstall all trial/demo versions of the game that you have installed (if any)...

    *******************************************************************

    Then, follow these instructions exactly:

Download and then run the Microsoft Windows Installer application installation and configuration service

--- Note: The file you will download there is named:
    WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe

    *******************************************************************

Then, after that installation concludes, download and then run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

--- Note: The file you will download there is named:
    msicuu2.exe

    *******************************************************************

After installing, first click the "Windows Install Clean Up" shortcut, then select the game you are having trouble installing/uninstalling/reinstalling (either "Age of Empires III" or "Age of Empires III - The War Chiefs"), then click "Remove"...

    *******************************************************************

--- After you complete that, temporarily disable any/all anti-virus/firewall/anti-spyware software running on your system, then try to reinstall...

    *******************************************************************

--- Important Note for future reference: Trials/Demos should always be uninstalled first before installing full versions... [Edited on 2/22/2007]

Same problem here...I tried to uninstall TWC because my games were going out of sync. I never had any problems with AOEIII so I figured I would unistall TWC and reinstall it. However it got stuck twice trying to uninstall the game. So then I deleted all my TWC files on my pc and uninstalled aoeIII. I also deleted any TWC files in my registry.

    Then I saw this post.

Well, the clean up utility doesn't work I believe because there's no traces of TWC on my pc.

I have also tried a registry cleaner...no luck.

At this point I'm thinking about buying one of those reg cleaners or reinsatlling windows. What's your thoughts on this?

The other thought I had was trying this... http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_c/Games_and_Firewalls.asp

However where do you find "Open an InstallScript project in the InstallShield editor." ?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Merc

I believe the article you linked to is for those writing installation packages.

Did you have the warchief demo installed at one time? I ask since so far the only time I have seen this error reported was when the demo was installed.

    Parsgon,

Yes, I did...the files are currently deleted for the demo too now.

But yes, they were on my pc when I installed and tried uninstall TWC.

Is it worth spending $30 for a reg cleaner or do they mess things up more?

What are my chances of getting TWC installed?

    I have another idea...

Is there a way we can "trick" the computer? Create a file called FirewallInstallHelper.dll and the place it somewhere?

Well, i had the same problem as u... I just follow the step's posted by the friend up-head.. (Download The Cleaner).. Also i deleted to the resting folders that stay in PC.

After that, i enter register (Start -> Run) -> regedit.exe

Go in HKEY USER LOCAL MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> Find Microsoft Games (Show's like a folder) and delete it.

So, to finish, go on Control Panel and disable firewall.

Will work, worked for me :)

I do not see the "Age of empires III - The War Chiefs" that you talk about on the Windows Install Clean Up. This is the one i'm am having a problem with.

OK, I did the steps and I got another problem: When I try to uninstall TWC now, the add/remove programs button is just totally unresponsive.  Will a total memory whipe of my computer do the trick? I am willing to try anything about now.
