Re: Can't complete instalation TWC ; problem Art4.bar?
Error 1603 generally means the user doesn't have enough temporary disk space to conduct the install. Install Shield (MSI actually as well are parts of IS) requires a significant amount of temp file space to do the install. It has to copy its runtime to the temp dir, install the IS engine into the Program Files folder, then use temp space to extract files from the cabs. So the user either has to free up space in their temp dir, or move the temp dir to a drive with more space.
--- How much free space does your system have right now?

Re: Can't complete instalation TWC ; problem Art4.bar?
Hello
I have been having the exact same problem ("Verify that the file exists and that you can access it") while trying to (re)install AOEIII, not Warchiefs, when the installation process arrived at C:\...\Sound\...\music.mp3 in the middle of the second CD.
I have done most things in the "How to Troubleshoot Setup Problems in Microsoft Games" page but I am still having the same problem.
It really annoys me to not be able to play it because of some music file which is, I guess, not at all important in the game.
It looks like this problem is pretty common but I haven't found any satisfactory solution.
So, what should I do, as I am starting to give up... Is it a problem with the CD (I bought it 1 and a half years ago) or with my PC (has Windows XP and is 2 and a half y/o). Should I get my friend to lend me his AOEIII CDs to see if it works?
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Can't complete instalation TWC ; problem Art4.bar?
I have not gone over everything that may have been tried thus far, but one thing I suggest is: - Create a folder on your local hard drive called age3install
- Copy the contents of the installation disks to that folder
- Note there will be some small oddly named files on disk one that will not copy, this is normal
- Once copied reboot.
- Then clean out your temp folder. (click start=>run, type %temp%, click enter. The folder that opens is your temp folder)
- Now open that age3install folder and run the setup.exe in in.

I will try creating the age3install folder.
However about the temp folder- there are four files which i am unable to delete: it says (direct translation from French) that another program is using them. However I do not have any other program running. Their respective size: 11Mo, 16Ko, 16 Ko, and again 16 Ko so since they are small I guess it won't matter. Am I right?
Thank you for your help.

Re: Can't complete instalation TWC ; problem Art4.bar?
Well, here's how it went...
I had no problem copying the content of the first disk but then, when I copied the second disk in the age3install folder I had created, and had undergone 3/4th of the process, I came up with this error message (sorry this is some very approximate French-English translation):
"Error while copying the file or the folder:
Impossible to copy Disk2C~1: error with the data." It was followed by " (contrĂ´le de redondance cyclique)" in French. So in English it would mean "control of the cyclical "redondance". I think it would be "redundancy" in English since my dictionaries have approximately the same definition for these two words: "portion of a signal that is repeated for use in case of failure".
What seems clear is that it is my second CD which has a trouble, since it was also with the second CD that my installation failed.
What should I do now? I am pretty lost.
Thank you for your help.
EDIT: after doing some research on the web, I have found that "contrĂ´le de redondance cyclique" means "Cyclic redudancy check" in English. Can this help you whatsovever?

Re: Can't complete instalation TWC ; problem Art4.bar?
OK what I tried to do now was to copy Disk 2 on my very old PC which runs with Windows 98.
After I had copied approx. 2/3rds of the files, it also failed although I didn't have any "Cyclic redundancy check" error message.
What would be your suggestions? Thanks.

If you can not manually copy the files from the disk, then the problem is not the installer. Instead the problem is for some reason your drive is unable to read the data off the disk. The two suggestions I have are;
- Clean the disk
- Try copying using a different optical drive
- If you have network access other computers you can attempt to the disk copy on another computer. If completed you can then copy your install folder to your local computer and install from there.

Re: Can't complete instalation TWC ; problem Art4.bar?
Hi, Thanks for the tips just tried them... but ain't working either. after i almost completed the installation it gave me the following error; Error 1335. The cabinet file 'The_wa~1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indecate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package. so failed again :S i hope you guys can give me some more tips.

As I told you, I tried manually copying Disk 2's files on my old PC (not the one I use normally) but it also failed after 2/3 of the process.
The first time the normal installation failed, I tried to do it again on my E: drive (I had been using the F: drive) but the exact same error message appeared at the exact same time when I reached a file entitled music.mp3.
So I guess the problem is with the disc, but why did it work when I first installed the game (more than one year ago)? I don't see any major scratch on it and I already tried cleaning it. I might do this again tomorow though.
By the way, do you know what "cyclic redundary check" means? It is the error message I get when I manually copy the disc 2 files on my newest computer.
Do you have any other suggestions? I greatly appreciate your help.
P.S. Since I do have TWC, am I allowed to have one of my friends lend me his AoEIII CDs so that I can do a normal installation (hoping that the CDs work...), install TWC (hoping that it works too...) to be able to play the game once more? Or is it forbidden? Thank you.
