Subject:
Age of Empires III: The War in the North
OMGNO! NOT ANOTHER EXPANSIONS! Well this time, it's different. Slightly. Have you ever consdidered what might've happened in Europe, apart from the Napoleonic Wars? Not many people have, but there was so much that happened in the hub of the world (at that time) that is equally as important as the Napoleonic Wars. This idea of mine focuses on the wars fought primarily in the north of Europe, mostly for the control of the Baltic Sea and Poland, and of course, many other wars. It mostly revolves around the new civs I will suggest - Denmark-Norway, Sweden, Poland-Lithuania and Austria.
Austrians
The Austrian Empire was a modern era successor empire founded on a remnant of the Holy Roman Empire centred on what is today's Austria that officially lasted from 1804 to 1867. The Austrian Empire was founded by the Habsburg monarch Holy Roman Emperor Francis II, as a state comprising his personal lands within the larger Empire. Bonus: Austrians receive Landwehr each time they advance an age. The Landwehr’s number rises by five each age, starting with five. Buildings repair themselves automatically. Unique Units: Grenzer (Light Infantry, strong vs. Artillery), Landwehr (Ranged Heavy Infantry, strong vs. Cavalry), Frei-Corps (Light Melee Infantry, strong vs. Infantry), Kavallerie (Heavy Ranged Cavalry strong, vs. Light Infantry) Royal Guards: Grenzer, Hussar. Revolution Options: Argentina, Haiti.
Danish
Denmark–Norway is the name for the union consisting of the kingdoms of Denmark and Norway, including the dependencies of Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Following the strife surrounding the break-up of its predecessor, the Kalmar Union, the two kingdoms entered into another personal union in 1536 which lasted until 1814. Leader: Christian IV Home City: Copenhagen Bonus: The Danish receive a free corvette with every age advanced and more ships can be built than any other civ, but cost slightly more. Unique Units: Orlogsskib (Frigate Replacement Ship, strong vs. Other ships and Buidlings), Corvette (Caravel Replacement Ship, strong vs. ships and artillery), Geværet (Heavy Ranged Infantry, strong vs. Cavalry). Royal Guards: Geværet, Corvette. Revolution Options: Mexico, United States.
Swedish
Sweden was, between 1611 and 1718, one of the great powers of Europe. In modern historiography this period is known as the Swedish Empire, or Stormaktstiden. Sweden–Finland is a historiographical term, used especially in Finland, to refer to the Swedish Kingdom from the Kalmar Union to the Napoleonic wars, or the period from the 14th to the 18th century. Leader: Gustav II Adolf Home City: Stockholm Bonus: The Swedish can build Torps, log cabins that provide 20 population. All non-archaic Swedish cavalry can be upgraded to royal guard status. Unique Units: Drabant (Heavy Melee Cavalry, strong vs. Infantry), Leather Cannon (Light Artillery, strong vs. Artillery), Carolean (Light Ranged Cavalry, strong vs Cavalry). Royal Guards: Drabant, Carolean, Hussar. Revolution Options: Colombia, Peru.
Polish
The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was one of the largest and most populous countries in 17th century Europe. It formed in 1569 by the Union of Lublin, which united the Crown of the Polish Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and lasted in this form until the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, 1791 Leader: John III Sobieski Home City: Warsaw Bonus: All Polish units and buildings have extra line of sight. Polish cavalry can build basic houses called huts, and Cavalry are more powerful, but come with unit limits. Unique Units: Lisowczyk (Cheap Lancer, strong vs. Infantry), Pancerni (Heavy Melee Cavalry, strong vs. Artillery), Szlachcic (Explorer Trained Reconnaissance Unit with no attack). Royal Guards: Lisowczyk, Hussar. Revolution Options: Chile, Argentina.
Well that's all fine and dandy, but what, you may be asking, happens next? Well, campaigns, obviously. I have a couple of historical campaigns, based on important wars.
CAMPAIGNS: The Kalmar War - play as a Swedish general, fighting to scape the clutches of Danish rule. The Swedish-Polish War - play as Poland, fighting against Swedish invasions. The Great Northern War - play as Denmark and Russia , fighting Sweden and the Ottoman Empire.
MAPS: Well in this expansion, the maps should feature Europe, obviously. Not just Northern Europe though.
Jutland - A peninsula sticking out from Germany. Today comprises most of Denmark. In this game, it would be surrounded by islands on the right of the map, and would contain water on every side of the map, except for the bottom. Will mostly be flat with scattered patches of forest. Contains a lot of herdables, including new PIGS!
Scandinavia - The Scandinavian peninsula is today home to Sweden and Norway, this map would mostly be snowy, with mountainous terrain to the left, and flatter, forested land to the right. There would be a lot of huntable elk and native Sami villages.
More to come soon.
