Subject: help with custom scenario camera/visibility

ok, i have a really nice 8 player custom scenario, and just running tests to see if it works, and i hit a snag...

when i test as player 2, it starts off fine, because i set the camera start point by the player 2 TC... but when i saved it at a certain point and tried to reload it later, i couldn't see any of player 2's units, could only see player 1 units... not only that, but i could semi-control the player 1 units... couldn't do anything to any of mine though, because i couldn't see them...

what is causing this and how do i fix it?

When you went back into the scenerio(As you posted)..Did you "play as "player2, when you playtested?.The editor uses player one as default..In most cases..It's best to be player1 in the scenerio anyhow..If this is for a C.S.O..Please refer to the pinned tips and tricks thread by Moshe Levi..You'll find it at the top portion of this category..This may have been covered.

it is ideally for a CSO, but it is a problem i am having trying it just as a single player scenario also... i want to be able to play as any player and have the rest supported by A.I....

i've looked at the threads there and done searches but haven't seen anything about this problem...

for now i can only play as player 1... i switch the place object to player 2 or whichever one i'm trying, but it still doesn't work... don't know what i'm missing...

In a regular scenerio..You place an AIstart block at the towncenter for each computer player..Then..In your editor.. You select player data and set all computer player's AI to ailoaderstandard..For the player you're playing as..You do nothing unless..You want a custom hc or..Certian resources pre-set..As far as a cso scenerio..I recommend you read the pinned tips and tricks thread by MosheLevi..I'm including a link..I've never tested this effect..It might help.

i appreciate the response thread... i have done all of these things already, and have been through moshe's thread as well...

here is the thing... it all works fine... UNTIL i try to save the game and continue later... and as player 1 this works fine, too... but for some weird reason when i save the game while playing as (for example) player 2, when i pick up where i left off, suddenly all of player one's units/buildings are visible, but mine aren't... i am still player 2, technically, but i can't see any of my stuff to control it...

it seems like some kind of bug, but i'm sure there must be a fix for it...

All that I can suggest here is this..

When you load and then start the scenerio file..You click playtest..Right?.The playtest panel comes up..You see a Play as option..You select the player you play as..(Player2)..If you're doing this..All Player2 should be visable when the scenerio starts..(Best way to go)..

As far as starting your scenerio from load a saved game..This may not work.. Being that player1 is default..(To my understanding..No bug)..The only thing I can offer is what I posted you before..I also gave you a link to the effect..If you make a timer condition..Say 2 seconds..Then use the player set active effect..You'll start as player 1..When the trigger fires you'll then be player2..I've not tested this so you'll need to experiment a little. This may take care of it for when the scenerio starts from the begining from main menu..(If that's the problem)

If you're saving the scenerio at a certian spot, then starting from there.. You may need to loop this trigger idea..So it fires every so often..Again..You'll need to experiment a little..I understand if this may not be the solution you're after, even if it's a possibility..

It is recommended to "play as" player1..That is the default setting for this game..It is best to play the scenerio each time from the begining..This way..Everything loads and all your triggers will fire the way you intended..To my understanding this is how this game was designed for playing a custom scenerio..

    thanks alot for the responses...

you gave me a couple more things to try... i don't usually play from playtest, so i can try doing that...

it isn't a really big deal, i suppose... but in order to know how the balance is for different players and how it plays out over the long haul i needed to be able to do that...

either way, i think i can get it worked out with triggers or using playtest... and if not i'll just play it through from the start...

now i just need to figure out how to use objectives...

You go into the objective editor..This is found under the scenerio buttton..

     http://wiki.heavengames.com/age/Scenario_Menu

You add an objective by clicking on insert..Then you simply  type into the type box what you want to say..Be carefull..Don't use any symbols..This one is a killer..".

    http://wiki.heavengames.com/age/Objectives_%28function%29

You have to keep a constant order going with your objectives and with your triggers..

I'll try to give you an example.

Lets say you have 3 objectives.

    Trigger wise you illustrate.

    Trigger1

    Active:

Condition : Player controls socket (ply1)

    Effect: Objective discover (obj1)

    Effect : Objective show (Obj.1)

    Effect : Objective hide (Obj.2)

    Effect Objective hide (Obj.3)

Result.. Objective 1 will just come up on your screen as the objectives button flashes..When you click on obj. button ..All you'll see is obj.1.. When player1 controls the designed socket

    Trigger 2

    Active:

Condition : Player controls socket (1st socket) plyr1

Condition : player controls socket (2nd socket) plyr1

    Effect objective discover (obj.2)

    Effect objective completed (obj,1)

    Objective Hide (obj3)

Result..When player1 controls 2 sockets designed..The second objective shows on screen as the objective button flashes..When you click on objective button..The second objective shows with a slide button..when you slide it down.. You'll see the 1st obj completed

    Trigger 3

    Active:

    Condition : player controls socket 1st : player1

    Condition: player controls socket 2nd  : player1

    condition : player controls socket 3rd  : player1

    Effect : Objective discover (Obj.3)

    Effect : Objective completed (obj1)

    Effect : Objective completed (obj2)

Results here are..Objective 3 will show on screen..As Objectives button flashes..When you click on objectives button.. You will see obj.3 and a slide..When you slide it down..you will see the first and second objectives showing completed..When the three sockets are controlled by plyr.1

    Experiment with it.

    Hope this helps out!

    Regards

i think i get it... i was having trouble with triggers at first but have that pretty much under control now...

basically what i am looking to do for objectives is make a basic capture the flag type scenario... for example, there would be 5 castles and capturing any 3 flags/relics/items (including your own) would be a victory condition...

i started over with my scenario from scratch so i am still a little bit away from doing the objectives, but at this point that is the only thing i am still not sure about... otherwise, this scenario is going to be phenomenal... spectacularly beautiful and at the same time full of epic battles and lots of strategy... just gonna have to tweak it here and there to get the balance right...

This comes to mind..It may be an solution..

    E.G.

    A three player scenerio

    Trigger1

    Active:

    Condition: Player unit count : Plyr1 : 3 : Fort frontier

    Effect : You win!

Effect : Fire event: (To trigger2)

    Trigger2

    Nothing :

    Condition Timer ( 3)

Effect : Go to main menu

You'd need to make three triggers..One for each player in the scenerio..You can add a few more effects to each to make it look like the ending in the single player skirmish mode..I illustrated a win/lose sequence in one or both of the pinned scenerio design threads ..At the top of this category..Or..To save time you could try using the search function..(Win lose)..Might work?.Good luck with your scenerio..

Maybe this will save you even more time
