he's right. xbows are awesome against cavalry, if u have enough of them! lets say about 15000! then they are awesome!
of ***, i forgot.. pop cap is 200 in aoe..
and if u play as ottos, yes, create cav archers. THEY are awesome against (pure) heavy cav. far better than dragoons and ruyters imo.

Easy way to stop, kill their stables :D :D :D

(For when your enemy is smart and doesn't make only 1 or 2 undefended stables for the entire match and will not rebuild them because hes mad at you for killing his stables/) Hold em off as long as you can, their economy will fail very quickly, happens to me whenever I play as French and I feel like using my gendarm. spam deck....After 20 minutes they are making so many gendarms their econ goes to 1/4 of what it used to be.. usually they do not notice this (I usually do because I have a counter gendarme econ fail strat... that's for a different thread). I know the indian counter cav can kill gendarms... So can the Jap Samurai... Yet your best option, if holding out isnt an option, cav archers.

a few things that seem to work
1. Zamburaks have times 5 against cavalry, a pretty strong base attack, and only cost 1 population
2. doppelsoldners
3. Samuri
4. Upgrade your saloon to a dance hall with the 2nd age dance hall card and build Ronin, they will destroy gendarmes, but they train slowly, and you can only have 1 saloon, so just mix them in your army

I think you mean light calvary  But even so Shir. Would be better
With Dutch I use Nassuers to try and back them off. I don't use Ryters mainly because there attack is ranged and they (French Cav.) have ranged resist. Though They are slow. And the Ryter is very fast (1+ speed)
With Ottomans...
Since your talking about 3 vs. 3 try another Partner to deal with them. (Guessing they have better Ani-cav.) But if your forced to fight Cav. archers and Janaserires. I think Ottomans sould avoid fighting battles with good cav. as they don't havestrong attacks vs. them.

if you hit and run (which is quite hard to do), ruyters are better, but if you use nasseurs, be sure to use the stagger option

In vanilla the best anti-gendarme units are war wagons, dopps and ruyters. Cavalry archers are good to an extent but micro is harder due to their rate of fire so the gendarmes will inevitably get in range and decimate them. That's why fagdarme lamers do it: it can still be effective against its direct counter.
