i don't care if this is only an opinion, it's WRONG!! China are very good early, middle and late game, provided you know how to use them properly. they're an extremely hard civ to get to grips with and you cant really compare them to another civ. the only civ you MIGHT be able to compare them too is russia, but thats only because of the cheap-but-weak infantry aspect.
theres not a way for someone to give you a proper build order as there are soooo many variables that affect china's game. play a few compstomps to get used to how their units work and try to master the usage of banner armies, which are devastating when used right in colonial.
give us a few ideas of where you are struggling after you play a few games and we'll help you out. this may seem obvious but NEVER stop training armies from your war academy. since china's units are weak but cheap you want a constant flood of reinforcements for your army. this may seem like useless advice but as any other civ apart from russia, if you stop training units for a minute you wont lose out too much, but if you stop training armies as china for even a few seconds, you'll be crushed by any army.
tell us what your problems are playing as china and we'll be able to help you properly.

China
up? Lol no. They are very good. Chu ko nus are fast enough to beat
ashigarus. The pike are so cheap you can mass them easily. Keshkiks and
stepe riders do what they're supposed to do well, even if they do have
crappy hitpoints. All chinese units are so cheap you can outmass a
british player. Add all this together and china become quite a
formidable force. The only problem is if the enemy makes only one type
of unit it's annoying that you have to train two units in one batch,
because one of those units becomes useless.Maybe at your level,
privates and all, they are severely up, but once you hit sergeant all
civs have the same level of opness right up to field marshall level.
Anyway, to the orginal poster, I shall give two simple bos to get you to colonial. From there do what you feel is necessary. For
the first one, send four vills to food and two to build a village. Keep
training vills and sending them to food. Once the village is built send
the two vills to wood. Keep training vills and sending them to food.
When you have 200 wood build another village and send the migration
card. By the time it arrives you should have 14 vills and 800, making
17 overall. Build either the summer palace or porcelain tower depending
on what you want to do. While this is building send 7 vills to wood and
keep 5 on food. Keep training vills and sending them to food during age
up. When you hit colonial you should have 19 vills - 7 food, 7 wood and
5 just finished building the wonder. This gives you a good eco - wood
for building a war academy and han armies, food for han armies and
villagers, and 19 viallger to continue expanding your economy - but is
very slow, aging at about 5:10. You can vary the villager allocation depending on what you have planned.
For the second one, send all vills to food. Keep training vills and sending them to food. When you have a shipment send 300 food. By the time it arrives you should have
13 vills. Once it is gathered you will have enough food to age up. Get
a vill to place a wonder down, but don't let him build it. I reccomend
sending 7 vills to wood and 5 to food, and train 2 during age up. Your
economy will be worse than above, but this time it will only take about
4:30 to age. As allies I reccomend using the british in colonial. 6 musks is the best colonial batch available. Once you get to fortress I reccomend breaking off the alliance and allying with either the russians or the germans. The russian fort really helps, and it doesn't require a card, which is the reason I never use forts anymore except as china. If you'd like to go a different way you should ally with the germans. Their skirmishers are great, and you get a few doppels for seige and anti cav thrown in there as well. The trickle improvements are each worth 3 vills. French are perhaps the worst ally available, grenadiers aren't worth the export, resource crates suck, you shouldn't need them. The only good thing they have is horse artillery, but as taht's not available untill industrial you can just stay allied witht eh germans and get heavy cannon, or russians and get a factory

Not really.... They suck because their eco is too fragile.. but if you've got any experience you'ld use villages to protect hunts....

Their eco is hardly fragile, a few well placed villages early on pretty much eliminates and raiding threats until the opponent booms or goes fortress. Imo, their early game issue is the fact that they require so much more micro the perform at a basic level than any other civ. They cant just spam one unit, theyre pretty much forced to be tactical.
