Because in the first release of the game janissary where even more powerfull,they had more ranged attack and melle attack. After firts patch they have been nerfed but still they're the stronger heavy infantry in game(not considering expansions). they are able to beat anithing in melee and in range attack too(esclusing skirms units)

FU Ottoman janissary is much more powerfull than any musketeer (even FU British and Portuguese musketeers), but it is still a 1 pop unit. So a janissary army would easily beat a equal pop army of any musketeers. I think this is why Ottomans don't get fencing school card: this way they can train a superior army, but not as frequently as the opponent.
We can see a similar balance between pop efficiency and training time in case of Russian musketeers: they are very weak for a 1 pop unit, but they can train very fast.
A person with good tactics can never defeat a person who knows the principles of tactics.

Arcane Ranger:They substituted that for the engineering school I think. Not a very good trade off, but then again, the jannisary lets the ottos have essentially 3 royal guard units, except the jan trains slower.
what do you mean? janissaries are not royal guards, and what does training time have to do with royals?..
anyways, i dont bother with their training time in early game, its the late-game and treaty games that bothers me most. i think they should have added -20%traintime on the acemi olglan school card (-20% janissary cost) because french has a similar card (thoroughbreds) which subtracts cost AND traintime for cuirassiers (same goes for indians:elephants and japanese:flaming arrows).
anyway, they kinda add up for it by having battlefield construction. its the same with iro's and sioux's infantry. they train slow as well, but have the battlefield constr card...
Guess the civ:
This civ doesn't need houses. Still, putting soldiers near their houses make the soldiers better.

Arcane Ranger:Jannisaries are as good as a royal guard musketeer (around that) so technically ottomans have 2 royal guards + 1 fake, but just as good royal guard.
Actually janissaries are much better. Their basic attack*hit points product (ranged mode) is about 50% better than musketeer's. Royal guard musketeers get 20% more hp upgrades and 20% more attack upgrades than janissary, but this is in fact less than 10% relative to upgraded values. So those extra upgrades only increase FU attack*hit points by about 20%, leaving janissary with a big advantage.
