    Subject: Newb here

I have played only a few games online.I have been using Japan because I was told that you need to use an asian civ to build up your city level.

They said if you get to city level 20 for example then all civs will be level twenty but only if you use either Japan, China or India to get there in TAD. If I try to build up with a Euro civ in TAD it will only raise city levels for that civ. It's confusing...I just wondered if it's bull.

Also I've been reading in the forum about civs that are OP. I know I will get ragged on for using Japan. I would like to get good with all civs but I need to build up my city levels it seems. I keep getting kicked out of games for having a low level.

So, what civs are acceptable to the majority that I can use and not get labelled a "Lamer"?

I've been reading alot in the forums and if this has been covered. I just missed it.

Thanks you for any help and flame on...if you must

China is the "manliest" civ there is, it's my favorite civ and chinese players get respect. After that come portugal, who are the hardest civ but people will wonder why you are playing them because they're kinda weak. Brits are good, and any euro civ. Ottomans have a weak army but they are so easy to use you will get called a noob if you play them. Any native civ gets you respect, they are all hard to use but have the potential to be EXTREMELY overpowered when used right (Wakina rifles 3 shot killing gendarmes, Iroquis 5 minute rush,  Aztec can get 99 vills + 324 first wave attack army). If you play Japan you will get kicked from practically all custom games because people hate japan, you'll probably get pested too. India aren't hated as much because less people play them but they can be even worse than japan.

If you get a vanilla (original game) city up to level 20, all new vanilla cities will start at 20. This happens at 40, 60, 80 and 100 as well. If you get a war chiefs city up to level 20 all war chiefs and vanilla cities will start at level 20. If you get an asian civ up to 20 all civs start at that level.

wow, actually, one should call you a pro, because you mentioned that thing i found out too(of course do many ppl know that, but i mean i found it out for myself!)

i would say, chose either japan or india for HC leveling, and if you like medium/upper tier civs but not the strongest ones, try dutch, ottos or brits, maybe even aztec

you will be lvl 60-80 in no time, thus having all HCs at that level =)

    good luck m8

Top tier is France Japan and Russia

Next tier is Spain China Sioux

Ottos, Dutch, British, etc. are all much lower. If you want to be a lamers play a top tier civ. Otherwise play Spain, China, or Sioux but you will still get called a lamer once in a while but not as often.

I'll remember that thanks. Just finished a comp stomp with a british and chinese player. 3 of us against 4 comps on Expert. I tried out India for the first time actually had the best eco I've ever had in this game I think. I'm nowhere near as good as the other guys were and the computer can play retarded even on expert.

They have alot of interesting units and I think I will stick with them to get my HC level up.

Is there a way to lame India? If so let me know how to avoid it lol. ty

Laming actually refers more to using the same civ all the time, or the way in which you play (rush players consider treaty players as lamers as most tend to just spam as opposed to heavily controlling their units)

Despite what kingerik says, I would suggest learning the civs which are not considered to be OP (overpowered) as they require far less skill and prevent you from being able to play other civs effectively.

OP = Jap, French, Russia, all 3 of these civs have a certain attribute which is incredibly boring to play against mainly because it forces you on the defensive.

tier 2 (not op but getting there as either their economy or military is considered to be OP) - Spain, sioux and China, Very beatable, but if you are good at these civs than you are going to rise through the ranks very fast, not considered OP as it takes more unit control/eco management to set up and fight with these civs effectively.

tier 3 (as close to even as your going to get) - All euro civs excluding Dutch/Aztec/India are fairly well rounded, meaning that there is no one way to win with them, its all about unit counters with these civs and having a good eco balance (as opposed to a good eco).

tier 4 - If you really want people to look upon you well master one of these civs, they are considered to be UP (underpowered) and require a good knowledge of both your own civ, and your opponents civ to be able to play these effectively, and even then its going to be a hard job.
The civs which fall into here are really just Dutch and Iroqoius.

I would suggest learning a few civs, as all civs have another civ which can counters them, so having only one playable civ makes you very vulnerable.
Also dont just learn the OP civs, its not an issue for you now as youve just started, but if you do manage to get a higher rank (Normally 1st lt and onwards is where is starts) alot of people are starting to not allow the OP civs as its incredibly boring to play against them.

Never be afraid to try a new civ, and always try and research it a bit before hand so your not wandering around in the dark (as its not fair on your team mates).

Anyway best of luck learning new civs :p

I like having a noob rank, It means I can go up against up-themselves master sergeants like savory beef and completly own them.

    Lol super decay?

Try portugal. It is quite a nice nation to start with and once you mastered it,you can be a good player.

The hardest thing for portugal is multi tasking, which is one of the essential basics you need to learn.Knowing how many settlers you need at wood, gold and food would be also good, though it differs for some nations.

For starters,I would recommend trying to learn how to boom first. It is the easiest to pull out.Later you can try rushing and ff later.

If you use an OP civ a lot it doesnt necessarily mean you're a lamer imo and it definately doesn't mean that you can't play normal civs good as well.

I play Japan a lot on treaty but i can handle ports/spanish very well too, only with native civs i can't compete well, but then again everyone struggles with natives. Sure, using japan is easy mode if noone of your opponents is using japan (although in such cases i tend to use another civ).

IMO you're a lamer in treaty if you spam 1 unit constantly and mostly against their direct counters, such peeps don't get far except gendarme spammers or ashi spammers cause those units actually are a tad OP'd.

But to be short, you'll most likely get called a lamer if you use france, russia or japan. Right under those civs you got spain/portugal (don't know why peeps call ports weak in treaty), and following those are the remaining 2 asians and germans (if you know how to set up a well balanced army)

For your HC exping i'd advice to stick with japan and level to like 80 (2 million exp, that's like 30 games with your japs ). That's the level you need to be able to get all the cards your heart will desire from any civ.
