Age with 14 vills, get a market with hunting and wood upgrades, chop 400w. Age with the 400 wood politician. Once you've aged put most vills on food, make 2 houses, 2 barracks, and make a lot of xbow/pike. Once you have 10 Xbows go in and try to find stray vills to kill. Make sure you properly balance between bow and pike. Also, you'll want to send 700w, 600w (to sustain your wood needs), and then 8 bows, after that it's up to you; 3 hussars and 4 Cdb are both good ideas.

Your best bet is to do what Ourk says (he's a real solid expert), via a 5 Hussar semi-FF:

Safest way is to go for a Skirms heavy army + Goons, adapt if you see he goes Hussars heavy, as well as Artillery, you should be ready for either of these (avoid doing Cuirassiers, that's giving an unnecessary use to Ruyters).

I would start booming with a 2nd TC as soon as possible, but first off, secure the game by having a big army (but stay defensive UNLESS the guy really plays bad and you can attack, but usually defending is hard enough).

With eco ups you can almost even out his economy with 1 TC. With 2 you slowly, but surely gain the upper hand as time passes by. Grow a strong economy while defending, using the key eco cards (20% food, 25% gold, 25% plantation...).

Only attack in age 4 (and only go there if you're full pop, maxed eco etc...).

That usually work. If you lose then you played less well than your opponent, I think it's a rather balanced match up, though Dutch is probably slightly better.

Hold it with Skirms/goons and Cuirs only if you need them - I'd avoid doing any though.
Then roll over him later on. Make sure you wall everything off, set up a good economy... if you go heavy on economy you can even it out very quickly, and then have the edge.
The age 3 phase is definitely the difficult part.
Also, you can definitely have as good Skirmishers - 15% and 20% HP upgrades are available - you won't notice the little damage less your skirms do.


Not an easy match up though, Dutch has the edge by default at start...

If however you do plan to go colonial, do a Hussar start, 4 Cdb, 700w, then musks. GL & HF, hope this helped.

Technically you should have scouted and acted accordingly (harass vills, he has a military disadvantage you should exploit for a period of time, snipe villies for a far with RI, run around his base with hussar to keep him from gathering, etc), the best thing to do would be to age up yourself asap. You can't counter Ports Drag/Organ in colonial, you're also going to have a hard time vs Lancers, etc.. so send the 700c shipment if you haven't already, run back to the base with your army (you'll hopefully have one left), age with with the fast age politician. Shouldn't take more than a minute if you herded well and have a shipment ready.

What you shouldn't do, unless you have a really steep military advantage (more than 30+ military population I would say), is fight at his TC. His next Fortress shipment of 5 lancers, 2 Organs, 8 Caça, 8 rods, etcetc could really fruit up your army, and then you're in big trouble. You can harrass a bit, but don't stay too close. If you have 30 musks and 15 hussar (or some big army) you could try to house him in and get vills, but be very careful, don't get trapped by buildings.

Once you've aged you'll want to act accordingly. I'd suggest Skirm/Goon with one of the skirm cards, but if you see he has lots of caça and lot not a lot of anti-cav, you can go cuir. Scout. ;)
