Canada Day
|
Well, happy birthday Canada.
A little history... on this day 142 years ago (in 1867) the British North America Act which passed and united Canada as a single country.
Did you do anything today to celebrate?
As for me, I'm going to see the fireworks tonight :P

Re: Canada Day
in case some of you dont know heres how canada got its name:
the leaders of the new country couldnt agree on a name (they were french after all, but thats another story), so they decided to draw letters out of a hat. they drew three letters:
"C eh? (A)" said the first man
"N eh? (A)" said the second man
"D eh? (A)" said the thrid man
when they put them together it spelled C-A-N-A-D-A
if you dont get it heres how it works: "eh" is pronounced "ay", so C eh? is really C-A...
awww Aloysius banned me. hes so mean... does anyone actually read this? if you're reading this know that i would probably have something to say to you if i could...

Re: Canada Day
"The origin of the name "Canada" comes from the expedition of explorer Jacques Cartier up the St. Lawrence River in 1535. The Iroquois pointing out the route to the village of Stadacona, the future site of Quebec City, used the word "kanata," the Huron-Iroquois word for village. Jacques Cartier used the word Canada to refer to both the settlement of Stadacona and the land surrounding it subject to Chief Donnacona."

Wow, Los Angeles Metro alone has half the population of Canada. Maybe you Canadians can use some of our Californians?

Metis:Do you think it coincidental that Canada Day and American Independence Day are so close together?
Yes it is just a coincidence since they occured over 90 years apart. Lots of things happen on July 1st:
- My Birthday
- Canada Day
- Battle of Gettysburg
- Battle of the Somme (WWI)
- Queen Victoria's Day
etc
