    Subject: Wall building question

I'm watching recorded game and one player build sections of the wall as pictured below. My question is why to leave gaps in wall?

Most likely because he will be able to know exactly where the enemy will attack...

Yeah but that is stupid. If you are able to build walls ring your whole colony in a giant wall (not too big - make sure you can manage/patrol it) and then build defensive buildings along it. It gives an enormous boost because you can't be sneaked up on and have villagers killed (if they're safely on farms/mills/plantations)

The bank is damaged and has a chunk missing in the right place, creating the illusion that the house is on top of the bank. :|

zomg they r in the clan im in OP! 1111

but that is to stop raiding, but he is wasting wood if he builds a full one, it makes sense.

build one that does the job > a wall that does more than what you want

he knows what he is doing thats for sure.

Lol, yes the wall is to protect my hunters :).It's more difficult for him to get there and I can see him coming. I can use some pikes to set them at the gap in the left.

There's no need to completely wall everything off, especially since there is a trade route ;). I leave a gap in the middle because I want him to attack there and I already created choke points with my banks + houses.

The funny thing is that I was so confident that I would win that I wasn't paying too much attention to the mini map and he could still raid some vills Embarrassed

why didnt you just make segments of walls further away to see him coming in advance?

less wood to use on making a wall more eco for you

How do you use choke points to your benefit? Would not choke points also choke your settlers trying to seek cover in TC and will create big mess out there?

     The wall has two functions:

    1. I see him coming
    2. It prevents him from walking straight to my vills
The preventing part is also very useful and such a small wall doesn't cost too much wood.

Therefore you have to create choke points before your base and not in your base between the vills and your TC.

You want to choke points for his military, so that you can abuse the range of your skirms and kill your enemy units while the are trying to enter your base.
