I forgot everyone on the internets knows everything. NO we don't know if some other half a*s company hired by ms is working on another half a*s Age of Empires game.

Re: Are they even thinking about making AoE4?
Yes, they were! Gameswelt (the German IGN or Gamespot) interviewed Microsoft Producer Danan Davis (and his mate Chris Taylor). They said, that they made Age of Empires Online because they wanted to go back to the old Greek. If Age of Empires IV would come, the game would happen in the Second World War. Re: Are they even thinking about making AoE4?
They may have wanted to make a "family" game for young users to play but by going toward "cartoony" graphics and a "tongue-in-cheek" attitude they they alienated their fanbase, many who are 30 plus and have been playing the franchise for 15 years.
I could get past the cartoony graphics if the content was historic, even mythically historic, but most of it just seems only loosely based on reality. I haven't played AOEO in some time but the PVP and "social" aspect was cumbersome to say the least, hearkening back to the days when you surfed the "web" by manually typing FTP commands.

Re: Are they even thinking about making AoE4?
Aoe3 seems to be unique (and imo superior) to other RTS's due to the concept of aging, having a personalized deck, have the option to play no rush for a time limit (treaty), etc..
I hope someone on the software side realizes what a hit an Aoe4 could be if done properly ...
I realize that there are no failures, but only outcomes. I always succeed in producing outcomes. I always succeed in learning from each outcome.

Re: Are they even thinking about making AoE4?
I would love a game that combined the best RTS features of AOE 3 with the historical accuracy and civilization building features of Civ V.
Think of this, you could slowly build a persistent civilization then go to "war" with other users to gain things to enhance your civilization. For instance, maybe veteran status for infantry could not be unlocked until you had won a certain number of battles using said infantry.
Or maybe if an opponent had a tech or crafted weapon or something else you wanted you could battle him for it and if you won then he would have to give you it as tribute.
Alliances could be made for tribute which would prevent someone from battling against you or make them assist you for a certain number of match-ups (you could battle anyone at anytime in "unrated" match-ups where there would be no winning or losing things).
As with Civ, long-term strategic decisions would need to be made, decisions that would affect your play style for months ahead. AOEO does have some of this but it seems cumbersome. I do like the idea of visiting other's home cities and bartering for gear and other things though.
A few persistent heroes and age-up politicians that could be enhanced in certain ways. Master of Magic had persistent heroes that could be equipped with won or found items, which was pretty neat. The equipping of units as in AOEO would be a good thing too, as would be the politicians, which would give a persistent benefit if chosen as Age-ups during a battle game.
If a hero gets killed it would have a chance of dropping one of its valuable items, which would make people think twice about sneaking it. Of course, some items would give auras, etc.

I couldn't imagine seeing civ v combined with real time strategy. I tried to play a marathon game on Civ V. I made it to turn 780 so far. So painfully long, the game is.

An AOE4 would be awesome, but even a remake of AOE or AOE2 with new graphics and similar gameplay to AOE3 would make me very happy. Things like the removal of stone, home city decks, and no need to build deposit centers for gathering resources should continue to be implemented in future AOE games!

Yeah, but the home city is apart of age3. It only expands strategy, and game play in general. If we remove the complicated things from the game, we end up with another SC2, where the only fun is in the competition.
