(Copy / pasting this message into related threads) Hey all, just some info regarding the service outage today.
I apologize for taking so long to get the issue resolved. It just so happened the service went down shortly after my plane took off from Seattle. I am sadly traveling back home to attend my Grandfather's funeral, but will be working remotely over the weekend - so no shenegeans!
With regards to the situation today, it looks like the steam sale has had some unintended consequences - we've seen a ton of newly registered accounts and higher overall activity in the game. Over time databases grow on servers, in this case the ESO account database saw some rapid growth. As changes are made to databases, they're recorded in a transaction log. These logs grow pretty quickly, often several GB / day. Normally they truncate at certain time periods, but today it looks like the logs were growing a bit quicker than the scrips were truncating. I'll be continuing to monitor the situation over the next few days, but with any luck we won't see any additional unexpected downtime today.
