Steam Sale Aftermath
|
During the steam sale which was recently concluded, I noticed the number of users on jump from 1200-1700 average to almost 2200 every day. Now the sale has been done for a few weeks now, and the figures have dropped back down. This tells me that people are coming and buying this game, but not staying online. Why?
You're a noob and you suck at supremacy.

People get bored. They play the other games they bought in the Steam sale. While most purchasers will try the game for a bit right after buying it, not all purchasers will become 24/7 players, which makes for a surge of users during the sale.

I wouldn't abandon my cash after I got kicked once or twice.

Could be that playing against ruthless veterans sours them on the experience. I mean, if you don't know exactly what you're doing in an ESO game, you're gonna get rolled. Of course Privates need to stick to games with other Privates, but who knows if they actually do.

Re: Steam Sale Aftermath
I buy Steam sale games on a complete whim sometimes. Very rarely do I become a long term regular player from a game I bought randomly on Steam when I saw it was on sale. RTS games are hard to get into. I have a lot of trouble getting BACK into them once I stop playing. I truthfully have NEVER successfully quit playing an RTS for more than a few months and then got back into playing it competitively. This goes for Starcraft 1 and 2, Age of Empires 2, Age of Empires 3, etc. etc. I can still jump into a game of Call of Duty (first one) and start having fun right away without getting owned for three or four weeks. But yeah Steam sales may pick up a few players but the majority won't stay around for the long haul.

Re: Steam Sale Aftermath
Skilllevels have improved over the years, noobs probably got bashed by low rank players which were a lot better than them regardless of that, due to experience. Some may have gotten into treaty games and thought you got to wait an hour before you can actually play the game.. Then there is the flaming, etc.
