Okay everyone, I know you are not allowed to change your name, but I am stuck with this stupid one I made from when I first got the game. It was my brother's username and I took and and now I hate the username. I bareley thirteen when I made it and I really need it to be:

Zaphinine

It is currently Zezyo and it makes me look like some nooby twelve year old.
I don't even care if all my data is gone and you delete my account, I would just do anything for my name to change. Just unregister the product key registered to Zezyo and delete my name on it. I have all three games:

 - Age Of Empires III
 - Age Of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties
 - Age Of Empires III: The Warchiefs 

Please delete my account. My password is not working as well and I really just want to start over. I am too poor to afford a new game. If I had the money, I would buy one, but I don't.  

 
P.S. - You would have a lot more players if you didn't limit the PID to only one account. My siblings have all been required to buy their own game. We have spent over $150 on our games because of this. Only I have all three expansions too. We have just been playing on LAN because we all can't have an Asian and Warchief ES Online. 

P.S.S. - When I requested an account recovery for my little brother, we never received an email so we have been forced to play on LAN because of that...

Even in 2012, Age Of Empires III has been and always will be my favorite game. It's like Risk but better!

It's been a long-standing policy here that ESO usernames, once created, cannot be changed. The only way to get a new username is to buy a new copy of the game.

This policy is stupid. I am not going to form over more money for a feature that should have already been included. I do not see why they cannot just delete my data in the SQL or whatever they use. I have no money for the game. Five years later and it is still full price - I would buy I but it's still too high...

Here are some reasons why you can't change your username.

1. It is better to have a unique, unchangeable, ID to linked to each product key. 
2. Changeable usernames would add unnecessary complexity to the database system.
3. Static usernames enhance system security. 
4. Players would never know who was who if usernames were changed at will.
5. If usernames could be changed and old usernames were not "retired" then new players would have old players' usernames, adding unnecessary confusion to the community.
6. If names were retired then the choices for new names would diminish drastically.
7. It makes people buy more copies of the game and thus keeps the game alive for all of us.
8. Welcome to life -- sometimes our decisions have long-term consequences.

they did implement a singular name change for sc2. That worked out relatively well (however that might also be because accounts are only coupled with an e-mail adress and thats also how you logg in). 

For AOEO (if anyone here actually plays that anymore) or other XBOX.com users: you can change your gamertag there but it's going to cost you: 

Once you create a Gamertag, you cannot change it without paying a fee (800 Microsoft Points).

Does anyone know what 800 points is in real money? 

"Metis" had already been taken over there and my tag "The true Metis" is a bit silly but in the general scheme of things it's only a minor annoyance.

All of the reasons listed by Metis are correct, there are some additional ones too.  The name change would require a number of SQL queries and table changes, lookups, and other things that are far too high a risk for the benefit.  Just stick with the name you have. 

 Regarding AOEO and LIVE tags:  800msp is ~$10.   On occasion the cost does go down for a sale type thing, but it's not terribly often.  Details on why there's the fee etc are available on the xbox site and several blogs.  It's been a heavily discussed feature.
