first use no antialiasing in the options. lower resolution to something more reasonable for testing purposes.
if your screen freezes and you can still move the cursor and tab/alt use the internet.....then i guarentee its a bad gfx card.

grafics is not the problem, my system:
geforce 9800gtx+ (2xsli)
intel core2 quad 6600
4gb ram.
if im not mistaken, but i think aoe3 only uses physx. it doesnt utilize multiple core or sli.

delete all leftover folders in mydoc/mygam/aoe3 everything!
also look in c/programfiles for any microsoft aoe3 folders. delete
