RoN is kinda bad?
Honestly, the scope of RoN is a little too broad to make a balanced and nuanced RTS game. I have a lot of respect for BHG, Brian Reynolds is a good game designer, but I think he bit off more than he could chew in trying to encompass the whole of human history in the frame of a Real Time Strategy game.

I'm assuming your opponent is using some buildings or terrain to screen himself against your cavalry charge, because 5 hussars should put a good dent in 15 longbows before dying. That said, he's spent 500 more resources on his longbows than you have on your cavalry. Where's the rest of your army?

Sending unescorted settlers to out of the way areas unescorted is relying on your opponent to be lazy or stupid. Not a good assumption as you climb the ranks.

17. You arrive in Colonial a bit later, but with a lot more resources and better economy. It's virtually impossible to age with 14 and not have idle TC time, unless you're on Carolina, or some other crate-heavy map.

I did try the fan patch, got ambushed by the Robot patch, it completely hosed up my installation and I had to uninstall and reinstall from scratch. I was not pleased.
I have no intention of going back to the Fan Patch, I'm sad to say, because there's no reason to believe that Robot Entertainment won't patch over it again when I'm not ...
